Material is reserved automatically when a manufacturing order is created. If you issue less material than the suggested quantity, it is possible to close the material line. By closing the reservation you free up the remaining reserved material to be used for other manufacturing orders.
If, for some reason, you want to issue more material or adjust a closed material line, this is possible even though the line is closed. You do this by entering a new issue quantity and then clicking Accept update to update the order and stock with the issued material.
Note: Reserved material that has not been issued is freed up automatically when the entire manufacturing order is closed.
There are several ways of closing material reservations. You can:
- Select and close a material line on the Manufacturing order material issue panel using the Close reservation option.
- Select and close a material line on the Manufacturing order maintenance, Bill of material panel using the Close res option.
The following describes how to close the reservation from the Material issue function.
- Select the Issue/receive manufacturing order menu item.
- You access Inventory transaction selection, Manufacturing order. Select a manufacturing order and click Planned issue.
- You access Manufacturing order material issue. Select the material line for which you have issued less than the suggested quantity and click Close reservation. The Cl field will be set to YES denoting that the material line is to be closed. Click Accept update. Exit the routine.
The material line status is set to 60 (completed), any remaining material reservations are removed from Time axis, and the Sales and Operation Plan is updated.
